In Israel, both rabbinical and family courts are authorized to judge issues involving divorce between Jewish couples. This can affect alimony, child custody and support, and division of property. Some cases involve the refusal of husbands to give wives gets (Jewish divorce documents), leaving them with agunot status–unable to divorce or re-marry according to Jewish law.
